e bessen Info:
Distribution: In Finland, the population focuses on Lapland where 80 % of our Golden Eagles nest. There are inhabited territories also in the Province of Oulu, the Suomenselkä watershed area, and Central Finland.
Conservation: Golden Eagles, as well as other birds of prey, have been persecuted, as they prey on the same game as people. The Golden Eagle population in Finland was probably at its lowest at the end of 1960's, when the number of couples was estimated to be 150 - 200. The Golden Eagle was classified as a protected species at that time. Also forestry has an influence on Golden Eagles: the forest road network shatters large forests in the wilderness into isolated patches of land, and trees do not have time to grow to replace those sturdy-branched trees that have been cut down. Today, (in 2008), 460 - 470 Golden Eagle couples nest in Finland. The Golden Eagle is an endangered species in Finland.
